These wheels are super heavy duty. I have a 43 foot 5th wheel and have installed them on my trailer hitch cross bars. Once I bought the u-bolts separately they installed very easily. I followed the instructions for the proper hitch installation to be safe. I did receive one wheel with a zerk fitting falling out due to stripped threads. E-Trailer immediately sent a replacement wheel and expedited delivery to get me on the road. The poly urethane wheels roll very smoothly. I haven't towed the rig yet but my driveway is steep and I'll be putting them to the test soon.

by:

Bought for our 36ft travel trailer. We had skids rollers added to the rear in order yo back it up our driveway way. Ones that were originally installed were purchased through our camper garage and busted. These bought through etrailer are heavy duty and made so much better.

by:

This product was as described and has proven to work well for protecting the back of our fifth wheel camper. We ended up welding an additional piece to the frame for optimal position and fit on our camper. My only suggestion would be for etrailer to repackage the item in additional padding and extra box because it arrived with the box torn and many pieces missing. etrailer had excellent customer service in providing the missing parts.

by:

We bought these for our camper in 2018 and we broke one and needed to reorder. They are exactly we needed because of the incline of our driveway and length of camper.

by:

I think skid wheels are going to work w ell.

by:

The wheels did well. The frame would not hold the weight. I had a welder weld vertical supports on the frame..all is well.

by:

Within 2 weeks of installing these skid wheels they literally crumbled and disintegrated. To say the least I am very disappointed and feel that they were a big waste of money. I would not recommend this item to anyone.

by:

Nice solid units, Good delivery. Had to make a replica top set to attach to a 37' travel trailer without welding. We have steep gravel driveway that has been damaging the rear jacks, Good clearance now.

by:

Easy to install, and work as advertised. Very sturdy construction as these are the 'big boys', rated for Class A and large trailers over 34'. We have a 44' Cyclone Toyhauler, and these are a MUST! Highly recommend for anyone needing to prevent their RV undercarriage from dragging when going through low spots in the road.

Still SUPERB!! One of my best upgrades so far. Worth every penny. A

by:

If it wasn't for wheels I would have had to remove and replace my driveway to change the grade. At $10,000 for a new driveway this was a much better choice and it didn't only solve the problem at home, anywhere there is a steep grade the back of the fifth wheel doesn't drag and damage the camper.

by:

Bolted them to the frame behind the jacks. Fairly easy. Just took my time drilling the holes and getting them lined up. Seems to be really heavy duty and durable.

by:

My customer is very happy with the product. We built a custom bumper with these wheels for his 5th wheel trailer to protect the auto-leveler system. Work like a charm!

by:

Worked perfect for my 40ft. Park Model. I had them welded on just in front of the scissor jacks. Works perfect and prevents the ass from dragging going up my steep driveway!!

by:

The concept is great, the skid wheel supporting frame is great, the wheel itself is cast and not near strong enough, I feel If it had more mass between the bearing portion and the wheel surface it would hold up better to the weight it is supposed to protect.
The wheels have broke several times on my 37 foot rv, but so far they are the only ones that I could find.

Thank you for your feedback. I checked and this part # UF48-979013 is the only option that we currently offer for RVs that are 34ft and longer. Keep in mind that none of the skid wheels that we offer are recommended for use on a diesel pusher motorhome due to the extreme amount of rear-end weight.

Ronald

At this Point the wheels have not broken, Even if they do it will still give some protection of the back end of the RV.

by:

This product is all it was advertised as. I have a 16000lb 5th wheel RV. There is approximately 17' of trailer behind the real tandems. The rear bumper has about 22" ground clearance. The skid wheels have about 14" ground clearance. The cast steel with the polyurethane coating is a good combination. These skid wheels has save the RV from dragging. I would recommend these skid wheels.

As advertised

by:

They did not last at all. The cast metal around the wheel blew up in pieces

by:

Part seemed like it would be fine. Have a 38ft 5th wheel and a semi steep driveway where the rear was digging in by inches when backing in, so I just needed a small lift. Was all ready to weld these on until I realized that for my specific trailer the placement of them wouldn’t give me enough clearance, so I stopped and returned (took off the bumper instead to fix my problem, lol). They were heavy duty and would have done the job for sure, though.

For etrailers part, they took it back no questions asked less the shipping I had to pay to return. Would order here again. No issues

by:

I installed these on a 27 foot Motorhome with about 12 feet of overhang behind the rear wheels. They have contacted the ground quite a few times, sometimes unexpected but have held up very well. I would recommend this kit for anyone having trouble dragging the back of there RV on the ground.

Darrell

I have had the skid wheels on my motor home about a year now, and they have worked flawlessly. There is a lot of overhang past the rear wheels, so they contact the ground a lot in and out of driveways. After one year they are still like new. A great product for protecting the undercarriage of your RV.

by:

They were easy to install and they solved my tail dragging problem. I would definitely purchase again if I bought a new 5th wheel.

They are doing the job keeping from dragging the tailend. Installed them on 43’ fifth wheel

by:

Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels- 6" Dia were welded on our 36ft RV in 2016. Our driveway has very steep grade transition. The wheels have worked wonderfully at home and on the road . We had to stiffen up the RV frame before the wheels were installed to the frame. Most of the time I try to slowly move through questionable grades changes so to allow the wheels to swivel to the intended support position. I’ve seen other similar wheels that were damaged from sudden weight and directional changes.

by:

second pair , Love them will save the rear of camper from thousands in damage from dragging ,they work in dirt also , campers are getting longer , must have

by:

Had ultra fab on my 5th wheel for 10 years or so, and pulled up my steep driveway many times. They lasted through this punishment the whole time.

Bought a motor home and put same wheels on it, but over hang prevented me from getting up our very steep driveway. They have prevented damage through dips and other driveways, but it I had dropped the wheels for my driveway, the drive wheels would have been in the air.

Love them anyway. Plan to get another 5th wheel, and will install on it.

by:

I purchased these wheels for the tail end of my 34 foot travel trailer. I took my trailer to Ketchikan, Alaska via ferry. The ramps getting on and off of the ferry were very steep and the wheels kept the back of the trailer from dragging and causing damage.
These wheels did exactly what was advertised and more. I would recommend the wheels to anybody who drives an RV up or down a steep incline. They will prevent any damage from scraping the back of the RV. I will install a set of these wheels on any RV that I own in the future.

by:

I attached these skid wheels to the rear of my 42 foot fifth wheel trailer because my driveway slopes to the street. they support the weight of the trailer and prevent the spare tire and the rear of the trailer from dragging. They work very well.

  • Skid Wheel Recommendation for a 43 ft Long Trailer and Spare ST225/75R15 Wheel and Tire
For a wheel and tire in the size you need with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you would want the part # AM32680. The tire is a Load Range E. The skid wheels part # UF48-979013 are designed for the large RV sizes of over 34 feet so they would be the toughest. Everything else we carry isn't rated for the larger RV sizes so these would be your best option. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Will Air Bags Allow 2004 Ford F-53 Motorhome to Raise 4 Inches
Nope, air springs like the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57410 won't raise your 2004 Ford F-53 four inches; if the back end of your motorhome was sagging, or if you wanted your rig to handle better with less body roll then these are perfect. But air bags don't lift your vehicle above normal ride height. The best I can offer are skid wheels (if you don't have them) which you can put on the rear of your motorhome to help stop the back end from dragging. There are two options...

  • Recommended Skid Wheels for 36 Foot DRV Fifth Wheel
The Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels, part # UF48-979013 is the most heavy duty set we offer, and what I'd recommend. According to my Ultra-Fab representative, these skid wheels should work perfectly for you. They are specifically designed for larger fifth wheels and Class A motorhomes that are greater than 34 inches in length.

  • Recommended Skid Wheels for 35-Foot Travel Trailer
We do offer a range of skid wheels for travel trailers and all can be seen on the link at right. Given the substantial 35-foot length of your Greywolf travel trailer I do suggest a caster type skid wheel since it will be able to rotate and so disengage from the road surface rather than stay locked into one position as fixed skid wheels do. The set I suggest is the bolt-on 6-inch diameter Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels # UF48-979013 which are intended specifically for trailers longer than 34-feet.

  • Is a Weight Capacity Listed For Ultra-Fab Rotating, Hitch Mounted Skid Wheels for RVs
Ultra-Fab does not list a weight capacity for the Mounted Skid Wheels for RVs, part # UF48-979014. They said the wheels are designed to keep the trailer from being damaged when going up or backing down a driveway or over a curb and would not be used for extended use. These skid wheels are designed to work with RVs up to 30-ft long. For RVs that are longer than 34-ft I recommend part # UF48-979013.

  • Do Ultra-Fab 5-Inch and 6-Inch Skid Wheels Use Same Mounting Plate
The 6-inch Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels # UF48-979013 use the same mounting plate as the smaller 5-inch model # UF48-979012 so you certainly can change to the 5-inch size if they better fit on your RV. My contact at Ultra-Fab confirmed the mounting brackets are the same. You also have the option of just replacing the wheel with 4-inch part # UF48-001011 which will cost you substantially less. These are sold individually, please note.

Since your trailer is 36' in length you'll actually want to go with the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels for Class A RVs 34' and Longer - 6" Diameter # UF48-979013. These are going to be a little bit larger than the 5" you were looking for but they are the only compatible skid wheels for your trailer's length. The brackets will need to be welded to the frame of your trailer, which will then allow you to bolt on the wheels.

  • Recommended Skid Wheel for Class A 32ft 2014 Coachmen Mirada Motorhome
I can help you figure out which skid wheels are right for your trailer. The way to pick out skid wheels is based off of the length of the trailer. For Class A motorhomes longer than 30 feet, Ultra-Fab highly recommends using the 6 inch skid wheels, part # UF48-979013. The reason is that the longer motorhomes usually have a longer overhang at the rear. I have linked the above recommended product to this page for your viewing and purchasing convenience.

  • Will the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels Work in Gravel
The Ultra-Fab 5" Skid Wheels part # UF48-979012 and the Ultra-Fab 6" Skid Wheels part # UF48-979013 will both work on a gravel surface but the gravel will be harder on the caster wheels than a normal flat paved surface will. However, if the gravel is packed hard enough then you should be alright. There is always going to be limitations with the skids wheels such as how heavy the RV is, how hard it hits, and how much weight is on the rear of the RV.

You definitely can install the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels # UF48-979013 on your 42' 5th wheel but it is worth noting that the wheel and caster plate measures 7-1/2" tall so if the 16-1/4" that you measured is from the frame rail then that means your ground clearance will be reduced to 8-3/4" which really isn't much at all. If you wanted to use U-bolts you would need to provide your own. To match up to the mounting plate the u-bolt will need to be 3-1/4 inches apart measured on center.
